Don’t look in their eyes – don’t look in their eyes!
July/August 2017
An essential part of our regular Sunday morning routine is ‘the walk’. If the British summer allows and our snorkels and weatherproofs look like they will hold up we set off soon after breakfast, striding up the main road and eventually reaching and passing through the next two villages. We then cross over by the boundary sign and return via the other side of the street. We do this with buoyant spirits, discussing life, the universe and everything as usual along the way, and pausing only to say ‘Good Morning’ to those we meet during our excursion.
And it is here that we sometimes run into difficulties.
Take the other Sunday as an example…
At an early juncture in the proceedings we smiled brightly and made direct eye contact a number of times with a lady in her forties who encountered us when rounding a corner into our path.
She looked directly at us (we continued to smile) then straight through us (still smiling at this point), then looked away (smiles aching a bit and not quite so bright by now).
Next a passing cyclist was the target of our cheery expressions and upturned lips.
Despite looking in our direction at head height (if his eyesight was so bad he couldn’t actually see us or our smiles he had no business actually being on the road) he pedalled straight past us without any form of acknowledgement.
Indeed, it seemed as though every fellow we hailed as well met on that walk that day either blasted us with an icy stare or a dismissive look or pretended that we weren’t there. Actual verbal ‘Good Mornings’ were also launched from us at intervals, and these must obviously have dissipated on the air before reaching the ears of those they were intended for, as the sound waves emanating from our lips had no effect whatsoever on the passers-by they were intended for and elicited zero responses from them..
And this lack of simple interaction with other human beings started to turn our mood.
What had begun as a bright, brisk and beautiful walk in the sunshine began to cloud over in our minds.
After all, this was a Sunday, wasn’t it? A pause for thought day and an opportunity to behave in an outgoing and civilised manner towards others? It wasn’t as though we were doing anything offensive in reaching out to people in this most elementary of ways…
When we had almost reached the house on our return leg, actually quite miserable by this juncture and just slightly despairing of human nature, we came across an older man trimming his hedges. He beamed at us as we approached him, locked his kindly, twinkling eyes on ours, opened proceedings by commenting on the weather, then stopped what he was doing to chat with us for five minutes or so, boosting our spirits with his joie de vivre, sense of humour and bright approach to his task and to us.
The positive energies he enfolded us in spiritually served to instantly reverse our outlook, reinvigorating us, chasing away the effects of our previous negative encounters and causing us to arrive back home feeling happy and energised.
…Have you noticed how a great many people these days are becoming increasingly isolated and unwilling to reach out to others? How they avoid any kind of interaction when they meet you in the street, looking down or away or past but never at you? What a great pity this is. In avoiding human contact we lose out on so much that is beneficial to both parties, as interaction with other human beings is not only immensely satisfying but an essential part of recognising, acknowledging and reaffirming our spiritual connection with all things.
You see, in truth everything we encounter on our Sunday walk (and everything you encounter on a daily basis) is connected to us – the people we meet, the road beneath our feet, the trees and flowers in the hedgerows and gardens, the birds wheeling above us and the animal life quietly observing us. We are all aspects of the same core Source and we all travelling a similar and inevitable path – one which will eventually take us back to dimensions of higher vibration where the norm is to walk that road of spiritual progression as groups of like-minded souls, individual yet united in purpose, able to draw in harmony on the richness of the experiences of thousands and millions of lives, now shared with and accessible to all for the benefit and upliftment of ourselves and our travelling companions.
Here’s Joseph on the subject of our interconnectedness, referring to the skewed Field of human consciousness we all exist within and are influenced by whilst on earth:
‘I am separate from people, you may say, I am OK. I don’t care about anyone else. In not caring about anyone else you do not care for yourself because you are everyone else. There is only you – the youthat exists around this planet as millions of souls. Only you ! You think that you are separate from other aspects of yourself because of the illusion of the Field, because of the dream.’
And here’s a further observation by Joseph on the effectiveness and importance, from a spiritual point of view, of our ‘Good Mornings’ to someone and of all the other seemingly inconsequential interactions with others that happen to us every day…
‘You alter the story of the people around you by saying, ‘Good morning’. You alter the story of the people around you by going into a shop and buying something from someone because you have altered the perception of that person for that day. You have been included in their life-story for that day …and you have to understand that when you bring Light into yourself you infuse Light into their day as well. Maybe (if anyone is having difficulty with this) that is a better way to understand it. You alter everyone’s day simply by being a presence in that day within that story. So, if you are taking Light and God-harmony with you, you alter the day of any person you connect with and interact with by bringing God-harmony into it. And, if there are enough instances of God-harmony within enough days then that God- harmony becomes a force that people have to examine because it occurs and emerges so often within their days.’
As the old adage goes, a smile costs nothing. A ‘Good Morning’ offered freely from that well of infinitely-replenishing positive energies we possess within us and which can be drawn on daily to benefit ourselves and those we meet is hardly going to bankrupt us and, in the spiritual scheme of things, is an excellent way to examine and appreciate the delightful interplay with others that will become increasingly important and relevant as we move on into the spiritual spheres.
A final few words from Joseph to bring the subject into sharp focus:
‘When you are encountering someone else, look at them from the point of view of them being you and you being them. So how can you harm them? How can you hurt them? How can you say anything about them? How can you upset them in any way? How can you feel less than them or more than them …bigger than them …smaller than them? You are them – they are you.’
Hold the presses – those strange ‘spiritual types’ have dared to mention the ‘D’ word!!
June 2017
We advertise in a wide variety of magazines as part of our ongoing imperative to make people aware of the existence of the Joseph Communications books. Particularly effective are those periodicals published specifically for readers aged fifty and over – possibly because people of a certain age who have not previously been active spiritual seekers find they have a growing compulsion to investigate life after death at a time when they are increasingly aware that there are fewer days on earth in front for them than there are behind.
Occasionally (Bear with me… I’ll tie the two strands together presently. Promise.) we come up against what can only be described as ‘spiritual prejudice’. Years ago, for example, an insurance company refused to cover me because I was a medium, and I vividly remember the sneer on the face of the girl behind the counter as she told me this. More recently – last week, in fact, as I write – a magazine (that shall remain nameless) had happily accepted a Band of Light advertisement when suddenly, at the eleventh hour, they refused to feature it, stating in their email:
‘ Unfortunately, this is not something we can take. I have just spoken to our team and as we have our own bookshop launching today, this would conflict with this. Thanks for thinking of (Name) Magazine, but unfortunately, we just cannot take it! ‘
Note the exclamation mark.
Do I believe they were launching their own bookshop? Not for a second. What I do believe is that they panicked and decided our ad was inappropriate for their readership. And why would this be? Because it featured a book whose title included the ‘D’ word… and we wouldn’t want to upset anyone, now would we?
Unfortunately the ‘D’ word is something a great many people avoid in the western world, as though by not mentioning it it will somehow go away; it will never happen. Yet each of us is travelling down that same one-way street of life with the sign marked ‘exit’ at the end of it. And not one person in the history of our planet has managed to sidestep this process.
Here’s Joseph on avoiding the subject of death, taken from Illumination:
‘I want you, the reader, to face up to something; to admit something; to realise something …to realise that one day you will not be here on this physical plane – and even that is wrapping things up to soften the blow.
‘One day, Dear Reader, you are going to die.
‘So many individuals in your world, on your planet, feel that they will be the ones to escape the natural course of things; they will be the ones who will live forever; they will be the ones who will not get old, who will not become ill, who will not die. I have news for you:
‘Each of you is going to die .
‘You spend, in western civilisation, a great deal of your time denying that; avoiding that; pushing forwards in your lives as though you will always be here so you must always accumulate wealth, you must always secure for yourselves dwellings for the future and security for the future.
‘What future?
‘Let us strip things down to the basics: your existence here can be compared to the existence of the mayfly that lives for a day and then is no more. It is a sobering thought isn’t it, and it is a frighteningthought for you in the western world that you are going to die. Many cultures around your planet do accept this and prepare for it but you don’t.
‘And so, in attacking people verbally or mentally, in carrying grudges, in perpetuating arguments – you do not realise that one day you will have to leave these things behind and take the consequences of how you have acted onto another level of existence .
‘What point is there in fighting over land that is not yours? What point is there in trying to accumulate as much wealth as you can when that wealth remains on a physical plane but you do not? What point is there in hating someone when all you take with you to your next stage of existence is the hatred and the effects of that hatred – effects that you have to work out of your system as a spirit before you can move onwards?
‘If you faced up to the fact that you are not a physical being but a spiritual being; if you faced up to the fact that one day you will not be here, then you would live your lives differently. You would appreciate the people around you because you would be aware of the fact that one day they will not be with you on a physical plane; that today is important because you may not have a tomorrow and today is the day when you should get your life in order. It is no use saying, “I can live as I want to now and then sort things out as I grow older.” It is no use saying, “The priest can absolve me so that I can go to Heaven spotless.” You will not go to Heaven – Heaven is a moving target; Heaven is a progression; Heaven is a state of mind and a state of being.
‘And no one can absolve you from the ways in which you have abused yourself and misused people but you.’
Strong words – but ones that need to be made available to a great many people who sweep the inevitability of their transition under the carpet and pretend it doesn’t exist and that their actions and attitudes whilst here on Earth don’t have metaphysical consequences.
I’m always deeply saddened when an opportunity to present a spiritual perspective on death is lost because an examination of this vast subject from such a viewpoint reveals not oblivion but a glorious continuation and expansion of life… reveals that the ‘undiscovered country’ is nothing to be feared and that, instead, a journey through wondrous inner and outer landscapes that are increasingly filled with Light and bliss and harmony and love is what actually awaits…
.. Now then, in light of the above, magazine without a name – don’t you feel a bit silly and just a little embarrassed by denying your readers the opportunity to discover the existence of Your Life After Deathand to exercise their free will and decide for themselves whether they want to read it?
…Sit on the naughty step immediately and repeat after me one thousand times:
‘Death is not a bad word.’
A regular philosophy column based on the Joseph Communications by Joseph’s trance medium Michael G. Reccia
May 2017.
I’ve been writing, man and boy, for some forty-two years. Indeed, an indication of how ancient a ‘scribe’ I am lies in the fact that I began my love affair with words by pounding the keys on a manual portable typewriter as a copywriter for a local newspaper. I’ve considered myself blessed across the decades in that I’ve rarely slammed into that restrictive mental brick wall known as ‘writer’s block’, but I confess I’ve been so busy of late that I couldn’t find time until the dreaded eleventh hour to determine what the content of this month’s blog should consist of. Considering the phenomena of writer’s block provided me with the answer, however, because, on the few occasions when I have been, quite literally, lost for words, I’ve as a result found myself sitting, fingers poised above the keys, staring at a blank sheet of paper (remember paper?).
Hmmm… a blank piece of paper. A clean sheet. Something we are presented with each morning of our lives. Except for most of us it isn’t blank, is it? We begin new days with a sheet already crammed with our mental scribbles… expectations of how each day will unfold based on our past experience and our negative predictions regarding our current situations.
We often forget that, from a spiritual perspective, we can decide that that paper is blank at any time, that we are making a new start, and that we have the power to write a different kind of experience for ourselves today and every day. Here’s an abridged excerpt from Illumination – an exercise from Joseph to enable us to fill that clean sheet with positive things for ourselves and for the world…
Joseph: ‘You can change the dream at any time in your life, during any day…
‘I want you to put your hand on your wrist and feel your pulse and then I want you to tell yourself that you are healthy, your pulse is regular, you are feeling great and that there is, coming to you from God, a great deal of health on this particular day. That on this particular day everything will go right: everybody will speak to you nicely; everybody will treat you with respect; good things will happen to you; you will be free from aches and pains; with every breath you take you will be more invigorated.
‘I want you set off on this day with these things in mind and I guarantee that, if you leave your normal dream behind – if you invest in this little fantasy of mine for twenty four hours – you will feel so much better. Good things will come to you. The telephone will ring and somebody will make you feel good. Things will happen to you at work that will be positive. There will be a spring in your step. You will forget your imagined age; you will feel young again; you will feel energised.
‘Maybe some of you are currently terribly depressed, down, oppressed, and maybe you feel a day is an unimaginable length of time in which to feel good, in which to place your trust in things going well (rather than going wrong). Then try it for an hour – an hour in the morning, an hour in the afternoon and an hour before you go to bed. And for that hour say: I am taking time off from my normal dream to dream something different, something positive , and you will find by the end of that hour in the morning and the afternoon and the evening you will feel better despite yourself.
‘I say “despite yourself” because your physical being with all its might will fight against this new dream, will try to convince you that you are still ill, depressed, lacking. But your soul will jump for joy; your soul will be powered by your subconscious will for that hour by you reiterating: I am well. I have abundance. Everything is going right! You will find that your conscious mind is saying to you, I am still ill, but something within you, some spark within you, is saying, No, everything is right – I feel better.
‘To change things you have to first change yourself, because if you take into the greater dream your own personal dream of lack, doubt, ill-health, then how can you affect the greater dream other than in negative ways?
‘First you have to change your own sphere and then you enter the greater sphere – the greater pattern, the mesh, the Field of people’s thinking and beliefs – and you alter it because you have first altered yourself at a subconscious level, day-by-day, by believing in a better dream.
‘It is that simple!
‘You have to detach yourself from the concept of reality being ‘reality’… because it is not reality: it is always a dream, a construct – no matter what you see, feel, hear, smell or touch – it is a construct. It is not you! It is your belief manifest and your belief comes from yourself. It comes from your parents. It comes from the man that you pass in the street who says, You are looking tired today. It comes from your employer who says, You are not very good at this. It comes from your news programmes where you are told the world is running out of energy, that people are going to war and killing each other, that this is wrong with you, that is wrong with you, that you are going to suffer in this way and that way. And you take on board, absorb, build into your dream, images from the greater dream.
‘I am inviting you to build images outwards into the greater dream from your personal dream.
‘When you awaken – before you put your feet on the ground – see the day you want to have for yourself and for the world. See peace in the world. See peace in your own affairs: in your relationships with other people, in your relationships with your house, your office, your car, your kettle, every appliance, with the things you are sitting on, the things you walk on – see peace and harmony from them being brought to you. Expand your view towards your country and your world. See peace in your seats of government. Peace in troubled nations. Extend your vision to the Earth and see peace in the rocks, flowers, trees, the construction of the Earth and say to yourself: For today this dream is mine and no other dream shall enter it!
‘ You have to be brave, you have to live the dream every day – is that not one of your advertising slogans: “live the dream”? You have to live your new dream, God’s dream for you, your dream for yourself – that everything is fine, everything is perfect – and build it into yourself day after day after day.
‘Expect immediate results but also be patient and loving with yourself and do not give up if, immediately, your day does not bring to you that ideal of the dream that you have put into it in the morning.
‘It will – little by little – it will!
‘You will build into yourself health, an understanding of yourself and your God; an understanding that what you see around you is not really there, is malleable, is able to be manipulated and changed. You are the dreamer!
‘Then, as you gradually change your frequency, your thoughts, beliefs and dreams will link up with similar dreams around the world – with the dreams of other men and women who are changing this world by being something different and dreaming a different dream. And little by little you will infiltrate the illusion of the Field and you will change it from within.
‘When enough people dream the dream of perfection, peace, holiness, Godliness – the Field will have no choice but to change because the majority of the thoughts that are feeding it will be infusing it with the dream of this better place.
‘If you want this world to change, you have to change it and the change begins with the dream.’
To sum up: when the ‘blank page’ of a new day presents itself, Joseph suggests we approach it as an opportunity to erase the scribbles of our past and create something positive and spiritual – for ourselves and for our world.
I, for one, am excited by the potential to create something better for myself and for others daily…
…What will you decide to write on the fabric of reality tomorrow morning?
